Sensei Thomas and Sensei Niall are home after representing England at the European Shotokan Karate Association Championships in Portugal.Both performed with their usual high levels of intensity and determination.

Thomas fought his way through to the 1/4 finals of his individual event again (3rd international event in a row that he has reached this round, showing the consistency required to compete at this level), losing to a strong opponent from Portugal. He then went onto the team event where along with his teammates (Bradley, Alex and Jake) fought their way through to the final, losing by the narrowest of margins to the host nation Portugal. Coming away with a Silver medal.

Niall was competing for the first time in the Senior events and had a very tough draw in the individuals. Beating last year’s Bronze medalist from Belgium in the first round and unfortunately getting disqualified in the next round against one of Germany’s top competitors.

Despite also having some quite nasty injuries (two cut and swollen eyes, having stitches put in his hand) he went on to play an integral part in the England team (including Jade, Ethan, Cameron, Bradley and Alex) reaching the final (dislocating his shoulder on the way) and overcoming Italy to become EUROPEAN CHAMPIONS!!!! Incidentally Thomas stepped up as a Junior and was named as a reserve for the Senior team.
